What is Film Narrative Psychology Consultancy?

A Film Narrative Psychologist studies the psychological processes involved in understanding, analysing, and engaging with the narratives presented in films. This field lies at the intersection of psychology, film studies and narrative theory as well as psychodrama and drama therapy. This will in the final product be reflected on how the stories we tell through the lens of a camera influence viewer's psychological and emotional engagement.

This is about understanding the narrative from a psychological point of view. I bring experience of filmmaking intertwined with psychology. At the heart of any compelling film lies a well-developed narrative, with extensive knowledge in neuroscience and psychology and creative performance coaching, my work here is to support and  guide you through the intricacies of character development, emotional resonance, and audience engagement. By understanding the cognitive and emotional processes that influence story and character development.

I offer unique insights tailored to the needs of actors and filmmakers. My sessions are designed to enhance storytelling capabilities through the combined lenses of neuroscience, psychology, and filmmaking. Session include but not limited to: Cognitive Process of Character Story and Plot line development, Emotional Development in the character and how it affects the plot, character psychology, Culture and Social influences in Plot development, memory and narrative retention, therapeutic applications of film, plot psychological development including choices of character and how those choices affect the hero's journey and the overall inner rhythm of the characters as well as the overall plot, what makes the character make certain choices around expressing itself verbally or non verbally, on set plot development. And extends to psychology of media marketing for the final product of the artistic project.

I work with you from idea inception to post production.

Engaging PerformancesFor actors, my work delves into the psychological aspects of character portrayal. We explore how to harness your understanding of human behaviour to bring depth to your performances. By examining the motives, desires, and traumatic struggles and social and cultural challenges of your character. I help you connect more authentically with your role, ensuring your portrayal resonates with your aspired competence in your craft and your audiences on a profound level.

Innovative Storytelling TechniquesFilmmakers, script writers and production houses will benefit from insights into the psychological components of storytelling. I provide guidance on structuring narratives in ways that involves the science of being human withstanding the cultural, social and neurodivergence levels in the holistic creation of stories. I support you in creating engaging and impactful viewership. My work draws on the latest research in neuroscience. This understanding can transform your approach to scriptwriting and directing, allowing you to craft more compelling stories that captivate and inspire.
